The Reserve Syrah is a selection of parcels from exceptional vintage conditions. Vintage 2008 was the first time The Reserve Syrah has been made; this has been followed four years later by The Reserve Syrah 2012.
Production – 120 cases made.
Alcohol – 14.5%
Winemaking – Syrah sourced from Willunga dark soils and Blewitt Springs deep sand were picked separately fermented on skins for two weeks in open concrete fermenters with the use of natural yeasts to enhance flavour complexity. Malolactic fermentation and maturation in a combination of new and one year old French and Russian oak allows the wine to develop roundness and soften over 24 months. The tight-grained Seguin-Moreau ‘Chene Caucase’ is selected for its structural attributes with a minimal vanillin/oak lactone impact. New French oak from Remond and the Nadalie Marsannay cooperages are also employed. Two oak selection passes were performed to leave the final handful of barrels destined for The Reserve Syrah. Bottled unfined and unfiltered in February 2014.

The first Reserve, with only 120 dozen bottles released of a 53/47% blend that spent 28 months in new and one-year-old French and Russian oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered; the effort has been worth it, producing a complex yet supple and smooth wine with lashings of dark fruits in a web of dark chocolate, the oak evident but integrated and balanced.
